GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

There is support available for disabled people from Fife Council and the UK Government. Looking for information about Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)? Information about DSA is available on this site here.

Support from Fife Council

People who meet certain eligibility criteria can get support to maintain health and independence from Fife Council.

Occupational Therapy and Needs Assessments

Occupational Therapy works with disabled people of any age to help them be as independent as possible. They can provide equipment and adaptations to make it easier for you to live independently in your home. All information, advice, and equipment is free of charge. You can refer yourself for an assessment by calling 03451551503 or online on the Fife Council website here. Depending on the extent of your needs, the assessment process can take a long time (multiple months) but they aim to offer information and advice to everyone.

More details about the referring yourself for an assessment is on the Fife Council website here, and about the help on offer is available here.

Occupational Therapy is also available through certain services on the NHS, so if you think you might benefit from an assessment you should consider speaking to your GP.

Blue Badge Scheme

People with certain disabilities that affect their mobility, are registered blind, or who would be a risk in traffic due to a mental health, cognitive, or behavioural condition may be eligible for a Blue Badge from Fife Council. If you receive certain benefits you may get one automatically, otherwise you may have to go for a mobility assessment before they make a decision. If your application is successful, it will cost £20 for them to make up the badge.

More details are available on the Fife Council website here.

MyFife Concessionary Travel Card

People with certain disabilities may be eligible for concessionary travel (a bus pass). These include those in receipt of PIP, attendance allowance, registered sight impaired, medically excluded from driving, Blue Badge holders, those with a recognised mental illness or personality disorder, learning disability, terminal illness, progressive degenerative condition, missing certain limbs, or veterans with certain disabilities.

Full details on who is eligible and what you need to apply is on the Fife Council website here.
